Managing the World's Largest Freeway System
TVi has successfully coordinated multiple technical visits for overseas delegations to the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center (TMC). The TMC is jointly run by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The TMC manages 27 freeways, 5,000 traffic sensors embed in the roads, 140 traffic surveillance cameras, more than 130 changeable message signs, 1,000 traffic-controlling ramp meters, 27 freeway advisory radio transmitters, and 150 roaming Freeway Service Patrol trucks. All elements are monitored from 25 multi-monitor workstations. With the help of the latest electronic technologies such as Changeable Message Signs (CMS), closed circuit television and delineators embedded in pavement, motorists benefit from a faster, more efficient transportation management network.
